3/20/2012: Members of Troop 467, 379, and 2010 met with Governor Deal at the state capitol building on March 19 for a photo.

Troop 467 and Troop 379 are going to do another Hike2Help on June 1–3 to raise money for Troop 2010 which is based at the Sullivan Center. This year’s hike will be organized and led by Scouts. Alex Butler and Miles  Mallory will be leading the charge for Troop 379. Jake Turner will head up the effort at Troop 467.

The Hike:  The hike will be a loop trail starting and ending at Vogel State Park in north Georgia.  There will be several loop trails available for folks to hike various lengths from as little as four miles to 20+ miles.  All hiking will take place on Saturday, June 2. We will stay at the same campsite both Friday and Saturday nights. Since the site is only 90 minutes from Atlanta, participants can just do this as a day event and not camp.  We’re inviting Scouts of all ages since everyone can accomplish one of these trails. Here is a description of the trails at Vogel State Park.

Fund raising:  Scouts doing the hike will need to raise at least $250 each by May 4, 2012. All others including former Scouts and non-parent adults will need to pay $20 to defray costs. Parents of participating Scouts who come will not need to contribute. (Of course, feel free to support your Scout monetarily.)  Please hold on to your donations until you have collected them all and do not send cash. Funds are due by May 4, so get started collecting now. Here is a Word document that you can use to tell potential donors about the event.

If you ask for about $30 per donation, all you’ll need is nine donations to reach the $250. When you receive checks from donors, make sure each check is written to Troop 467 and has a note written in the Memo section which says “Troop 2010 fundraiser.”

Info on the 2012 Troop 467 High Adventure Trip

• Trip leader is Mike Driscoll
• BSA Northern Tier at the Charles L Sommers Wilderness Canoe Base
• Ely, Minnesota (6 hours from Minneapolis)
• June 13th – June 21st   2012
• $100 deposit needed by November 1st
• $400 fee to Northern Tier
  
• Total cost of trip will be around $1,000 including airfare, ground transportation, etc.
  
• Must be 14 in the 2012 calendar year.
• 6 scouts each with 2 adults plus a guide for each crew. We will have 2 crews total.
• Food and cooking items will be supplied by Northern Tier
• Each crew will be able to plan their route. You can plan an easy route or hard route.  
• Scouts must have their swimming merit badge and physical. 
• Other expenses will include: Flight, Ground Transportation, Gas, Food while not canoeing. 

Itinerary

June 13th – Arrive in Minneapolis spend the night at Tomahawk Scout Camp
June 14th – Drive to Northern Tier. Meet the guide, Plan the route, Pick up Food and supplies
June 15th – Hit the water.
June 16th – Paddle
June 17th – Paddle
June 18th – Paddle
June 19th – Paddle
June 20th – Paddle into base camp. (Showers, Sauna, Hot Food, Bed)
June 21st – Drive to Minneapolis and fly home.

Fri, June 3, 3:00pm: Depart from St. Martin’s School for Davidson River Campground (4 miles east of Brevard, NC. on Rt. 276). Camp there Friday night.

· Dinner is on your own. Arrive at campground by 8:00pm.

Sat, June 4, 5:00 am: Start hiking the Art Loeb Trail from Davidson Campground.

· You can hike to mile 12, mile 19, or the full length of the trail (31 miles).
· Support crews with food and first aid will be at mile 12 and 19 checkpoints.
· Cars can shuttle you between checkpoints and to the finish.
· Carry day packs with your breakfast, lunch, snacks. [Email coming with details.]

Sat, June 4, evening: Camp at Boy Scouts Camp Daniel Boone at the end of the trail.

· Dinner will be at Camp Daniel Boone. Food will be brought from Atlanta.

Sun, June 5, morning: Depart from Camp Daniel Boone.

· Breakfast is on your own. There are great places in Waynesville, NC.

Raising money for Troop 2010. $250 from each Scout of Troop 379 & 467 who is hiking.
